Latest Updates from Our Project:

Dungeon Challenge Cards
over 5 years ago – Sun, Aug 19, 2018 at 05:02:10 PM

This is Steve, with an update about another project I’d like you to look at. You know that Phil Reed has been spearheading the TFT campaign. What you might not know is that, in his copious free time, he’s running his own little Kickstarter right now.

The project is "Dungeon Challenge Cards.” It’s a set of 36 hex-shaped cards (started at 24, but read the updates) to be used with any dungeon-crawl game.

These are very attractive and would be just the thing to pull out, whether you want a whole quick game or just one instant decision about “there they are in the dungeon – what happens now?”

The base support is only $15 and they will ship in December. (And if these work out, you might see some hex cards just for TFT.) Check it out!

Typo Spells Unlocked, Wizard at BGG, and the $250,000 Stretch Goal
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 18, 2018 at 11:01:03 PM

The last few days have been phenomenal, with dozens of new project backers joining us each day and stretch goals falling almost rhythmically. Thanks to your continued support, we start our weekend by unlocking Steve's 15 typo spells . . . which are online now! And if you think these jokes are awesful, you should see what Steve has done with games like Moop's Monster Mashup and Munchkin Steampunk. Count yourself lucky that you're not in some of our staff meetings!

255 Fans of Wizard at BGG

We now need fewer than 150 news fans of the Wizard page at BGG to unlock the random dungeon generation drop table. Close, but not quite there, so please visit the Wizard page at BGG and click the heart icon today!

New $250,000 Stretch Goal and Brandon Moore's Latest Artwork Complete

When Brandon Moore started work on the Legacy Edition back cover art, we knew that the specs we provided should lead to an epic image. Well, Brandon took the concept and ran with it, and delivered a fantastic piece of artwork that already has some of us in the office discussing "how do we translate this into an adventure for The Fantasy Trip?"

We don't quite have the adventure nailed down, but we are pleased to report that the $250,000 stretch goal if met, packs one 9" x 12" two-pocket folder featuring this artwork into every I Want It All reward package. Steve and I are already discussing ideas for what we would print on the back of the folder (as well as on the two inside pocket flaps), but we won't get to implement our ideas if we don't meet that $250,000 goal . . . so keep on sharing the project with all of your friends!

Two Goals Unlocked, New Goals Added!
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 17, 2018 at 07:52:33 PM

You're shattering goals faster than a party of adventurers kicking down dungeon doors! Over the last day, your support of The Fantasy Trip has unlocked:

  • $215,000 - We will add a fourth panel to the GM screen.
  • 400 Melee Fans at BGG - Posted on the website: five assorted new things for The Fantasy Trip. Evil Stevie has not decided what they are yet . . .

Thank you, everyone! With over three dozen goals unlocked so far, the project is looking incredible as we enter the final week of this Kickstarter campaign to bring The Fantasy Trip back. We're not at the end, though, and Steve and the team have been hard at work on a few more stretch goal surprises that we'll reveal between now and August 24.

For the moment, though, let's take a look at the two newest goals that have been added to the project:

  • $240,000 - We will produce a box for Death Test and Death Test 2, packing the adventures and associated counters inside an illustrated box that is included in the Legacy Edition.
  • 400 Wizard Fans at BGG - We will print a random dungeon generation drop table on the inside lid of the Legacy Edition box.

If met, those two goals improve the Legacy Edition box, providing GMs with a new tool to aid in crafting dungeons and all players with an attractive, easier way to transport the Death Test and Death Test 2 adventures when you're looking to lighten your load and go mobile with the two solo adventures. The Death Test/Death Test 2 combined box is planned to match the size of the Melee and Wizard boxes; we'll have final measurements after the project closes and we finalize the manufacturing details with our factory.

For this last week of the project, let's get out there and boost awareness of The Fantasy Trip at forums, blogs, and news sites across the web. If you start a forum thread somewhere or find yourself in an entertaining discussion about The Fantasy Trip at a blog or in a Facebook group, please leave a comment here and include a link. By working together, and directing each other to the conversations across the web, we can each share our thoughts and opinions on the game and raise the level of chatter about The Fantasy Trip's return.

Companion Update, BGG Goal, and Legacy Edition Back Cover Progress
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 17, 2018 at 12:45:07 AM

Yesterday, we received positive responses from three authors of older articles for The Fantasy Trip, and we are now securing the necessary contracts so that we can pack even more into the Companion book. We won't stop seeking out rights to older material until the end of this month, so please wish us luck in our search to find the missing authors. The more of those older articles that we can add to the Companion, the better the book will be.

BGG Melee Fans

The project closes in a little over a week, meaning that we're running out of time to unlock the 400 fans of Melee at BGG goal; 51 more fans are needed to smash this goal and bring five assorted new things for The Fantasy Trip to the website. Can we make it before the project closes?

More from Brandon Moore

We shared Brandon's pencil sketch of the back cover artwork a few days ago (posted here), and now we're happy to share the next two steps in the process. Brandon has not yet completed this artwork (which will appear on the back of the Legacy Edition box), but we should already be writing this up as a dungeon adventure, right?

(And on a personal note, I'd love to see us create a file folder or 3-ring binder using this art as the cover, but I may be weird.)

Private Game Sessions
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 15, 2018 at 10:17:29 PM

We have four game sessions among the reward levels - Gary Con, Gamehole Con, Origins, and Gen Con - and as I write this, each has at least one open slot. What are we planning to do at those private sessions?

To start with, the reward level includes I Want It All, so you’ll get those goodies.

Then, at the convention you choose, you’ll play in a game that I will referee. I’m still thinking about ways to make those memorable. They might be played on the 3-D terrain hexes that Eric and Phil are building. They might use Lego figures from my collection. I have a small collection of beautiful 54 (!!) mm figures that we could get Ben to paint, but traveling with large figures is chancy.

And we’ll start by giving you a game status briefing, such as we would give to staff in-house before a convention - an advance look at some material that is unannounced right now because it doesn’t even exist yet. We *probably* won’t need to ask for an NDA, and if there’s any NDA licensed material in the pipeline, and somebody doesn’t want to sign any paperwork, that’s fine – we’ll just knock that out of the briefing and go right on.

What’s the scenario? It depends both on how many players we get and the experience and preferences of the players - I have different intro scenarios that I can run, but if it turns out that all the players already know the game, the scenario will be considerably less “intro” in nature! If I happen to be evaluating any new monsters at the time, you might find yourself fighting them, but this is not a playtest game - I will not run you into anything that is not tried and tested.

If some of the players are experienced and want to bring their own characters to the game, we will talk about point levels in advance.

We’ll play for two to three hours, and if local circumstances permit and the players are of legal age, the first round of drinks is on me.

A question I have asked myself – what do we do if there’s only one backer signed up at an event? Well, we’ll certainly follow through - that one player will be the center of our attention for a couple of hours! If we have staff there, you might be teamed with some of them to fight off the hobgoblin hordes. Or instead of refereeing, I might just be the opponent for a one-on-one game. But warning: unless I’m actually teaching the game, I play to win!
