Latest Updates from Our Project:

Stretch Goal Update!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Aug 12, 2018 at 11:53:05 PM

With less than two weeks to go, the project continues to grow as more and more adventurers join the cause. At the moment, we're less than $2,000 from unlocking the $200,000 stretch goal -- and adding a duplicate sheet of megahexes to the Legacy Editon box -- so now's the time to get out there and chat about the game at other sites.

  • BGG - We have a Melee social goal in play right now, and at 400 fans of the Melee page at BGG, Steve will share five "assorted new things" to the official thefantasytrip.game website. What things? That's a surprise!
  • BGG 2 - Also at BGG, we have added a new image to the Melee page; the two octopus warrior counters by Liz Danforth. Let's boost awareness of Melee at BGG by clicking the "thumbs up" icon on this artwork. The more thumbs we get, the higher the chance that someone new to The Fantasy Trip will notice the project and join us.
  • G+ Tabletop Roleplaying Games - There are over 28,000 members of this G+ group, but it is looking as if we don't have enough fans of The Fantasy Trip active in the group. Let's change that today, gang, and get over there and tell the world what we're planning to do with The Fantasy Trip once the Legacy Edition arrives next spring.

Thank you for your continued encouragement and for supporting the project. It may be the weekend, but that hasn't stopped some of us at Steve Jackson Games from continuing to work on The Fantasy Trip. After all, pushing forward to make the game as remarkable as possible is the least that we can do to show all of you how much we appreciate you believing in us and the game.

We promise to make the Legacy Edition box as packed full of fun as we can manage . . . and, with your support, we can manage quite a bit.

RPGGeek Goal Unlocked, New BGG Goal, and the Wizard Playmat Add-On
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 11, 2018 at 09:35:37 PM

The 500 fans of the Legacy Edition at RPGGeek goal has been unlocked, meaning that we will add a duplicate of one of the megahex sheets to the box. That puts us at five sheets of megahexes in the Legacy Edition box, which will allow you to construct even larger labyrinths for those times when you're ready to explore the darkness and search for treasure.

With that RPGGeek goal out of our way, it's time that we reveal a BGG goal: If we can hit 400 fans of the Melee page at the site, we will post five assorted new things for The Fantasy Trip on the official website. What things? Well, as the social goal reads, "Evil Stevie has not decided what they are yet . . . " These will be a surprise.

(Please remember that articles unlocked and posted to the website during this campaign also make their way into the Companion book. More web articles = more stuff in the printed book!)

24-Inch Square Wizard Playmat

We've added the Wizard playmat -- the design by Dyson Logos that is a part of the I Want it All reward level -- to the list of available add-ons. Some of you have asked if you could get an extra of this playmat, and the official word is: Yes! Simply increase your pledge by $28 for each Wizard playmat you would like to add; you'll let us know your exact reward selections during the BackerKit stage of the project.

And while we're talking add-ons, please remember that the $15 megahex add-on is for an exact copy of all of the megahexes included in the Legacy Edition box; the more hexes that are unlocked during the project, the bigger that add-on package grows. If you want a really big dungeon, this add-on is one that you won't want to miss.

Secret Sketch

We don't usually show art in the earliest stages, but we know that you will want a sneak peek at Brandon Moore's latest sketch (a very early stage, long before any color work). This will be a part of the Legacy Edition back cover once it is completed, and it makes us ask: Just how many adventurers are brave enough to enter such a creepy castle?

New Add-On, a Question at RPG.net, and RPGGeek Goal Update
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 11, 2018 at 09:04:07 PM

Recently, we were asked if we would open the GM screen as an add-on option for the project. Yes! Now that the screen has been unlocked (and upgraded!), we are happy to announce that any of you who may need an extra copy of the screen can add one to your rewards by increasing your pledge by $15. You will tell us exactly which add-on items you want during the BackerKit pledge manager stage of this project.

RPG.net Question

In this thread at rpg.net, user The Fiendish Dr. Samsara asks: "has anyone tried ditching the Wizard/Adventurer split and run it [The Fantasy Trip] actually classless?" If you have any experience or knowledge to share here, please visit rpg.net today.

RPGGeek Update

At the moment, we're less than 20 fans from unlocking that 500 fans RPGGeek goal to add a duplicate sheet of megahexes to the box. Please visit the Legacy Edition page at RPGGeek and be sure to check the heart icon; let's get this goal unlocked today!

"10 reasons why every OSR fan needs to get in on the TFT kickstater"

For our last bit of fun today, we would like to direct you to this post at therpgsite.com where forum user Larsdangly offers up "10 reasons why every OSR fan needs to get in on the TFT kickstater" . . . and leaves us to ask: Why do you think those who are not OSR fans should join in on The Fantasy Trip today?

Death Test and Death Test 2 Stretch Goals Unlocked, Join in the Discussion at RPGGeek, and More OSR Fun
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 10, 2018 at 10:17:16 PM

You have now unlocked the $185,000 and $192,500 stretch goals: The Death Test and Death Test 2 covers will be in color! We will have to ask Rick to go to work on updating the two covers when he wraps up some other projects. Rick has been amazing to work with -- he has been a huge help on the Munchkin Collectible Card Game -- and if you want to see more of his work, please check out his Patreon page.

RPGGeek Thread

Andrew Walters has posted an important thread at RPGGeek -- "Non-Nostalgic Reasons To Play The Fantasy Trip" -- and this is a great opportunity for many of you to jump into the discussion and share with others why you believe that The Fantasy Trip is the fantasy RPG that everyone should try.

It is conversations like this one, at RPGGeek as well as other forums and blogs across the web, that are most important to raising awareness of the project. The more eyes that we can direct to this Kickstarter page, the greater the potential that we unlock even more stretch goals. So please, join in at RPGGeek and, if you know of another discussion that we should be aware of, post a link in the comments. Thanks!

Dungeons of the Dread Wyrm

In the "this also looks fun" department, we would like to direct your attention to a Kickstarter project by R. Nelson Bailey for his OSR adventure, Dungeons of the Dread Wyrm. While created for 1e and similar games, we all know that a talented GM will have no trouble at all adapting an adventure to The Fantasy Trip. This is Bailey's second adventure in the series, so we know that he has a track record of delivering.

And besides, any OSR adventure with artwork by Bradley K. McDevitt and Russ Nicholson will always get my attention. The below illustration by Matthew Ray is what first caught my eye and led me to back the project. Check it out today!

Five More New Rumors, Preparing for Conventions, and RPGGeek
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 10, 2018 at 01:10:34 AM

The $189,000 stretch goal is behind us, so we have posted Steve's five more new rumors to the official website. That makes more content you can enjoy now and more that will go into The Fantasy Trip Companion once we assemble the finished book.

Speaking of the Companion, Guy sent over the text for the two Judges Guild articles that we have secured, which puts those two closer to the layout stage. As part of the project, Steve and Guy have decided that some of the older content -- such as adventures -- will be updated as necessary for the current rules. Variants and oddities, however, will be left mostly as they were and are included in the Companion for those of you who enjoy house rules and bashing at and twisting game mechanics.

Conventions!

Gamehole Con is now less than three months away, meaning that it is time that Steve and I start preparing for the show. There will be a few "learn to play" events at the convention (run by me), as well as the special event with Steve (two slots already grabbed, two remain), so any of you near Wisconsin may want to consider making time to attend the show.

One month before Gamehole Con, I'll be at TsunamiCon in Kansas running a few "learn to play" events. These aren't as fun or cool as the games with Steve, but I'll do my best. And besides, we want to teach the game to as many players as we can manage. If you live in Kansas, you can make plans to visit and say hi.

RPGGeek Goal

We're now at 432 fans of this RPGGeek page and on our way to 500 and bonus megahexes! Please, if you haven't already, visit the page and click the heart icon. If we can hit 500 fans before the project closes, we will pack more megahexes into the Legacy Edition box. And we all want more megahexes, right?
