THE FANTASY TRIP – Old-School Roleplaying!

Created by Steve Jackson Games

Help us bring back Steve Jackson's first tabletop RPG.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

1.5-Inch Hexes, Space Gamer Articles, and Hardcover In the Labyrinth
almost 6 years ago – Sat, Jul 28, 2018 at 12:04:02 AM

First, the big news. Thanks to your feedback and encouragement, we are updating the Melee and Wizard maps, as well as the megahex sheets, to expand the game's hexes to 1.5-inch. This will match the hex size of the playmats, making all of the bits compatible. We will be editing the megahex sheet designs over the next few weeks and will revise the images before the Kickstarter project closes.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions and patience. This is why Kickstarter is such a great way to create new games. With your support and involvement in the project, The Fantasy Trip is now bigger than it would have been . . . in more ways than one!

Space Gamer Articles

With the $126,000 stretch goal down, it is time for us to post more Space Gamer articles to the web. Fortunately, Steve has been at work behind-the-scenes preparing the articles, and three of them are already online:

And in similar news, Steve has also posted the $123,000 stretch goal:

Remember, everyone, that if we hit $137,500, we will compile the website extras and Space Gamer articles into The Fantasy Trip Companion. So please be sure to share the project with all of your friends!

Hardcover In the Labyrinth Stretch Goal Revealed

As requested, we're opening up a $150,000 stretch goal that, if met, adds a hardcover edition of In the Labyrinth to the I Want It All reward level at no extra charge. If this goal is unlocked, we will also offer the hardcover as an add-on, meaning that the hardcover fans in the audience (guilty!) can add as many copies to their pledges as they wish.

This does not replace the softcover edition of In the Labyrinth that is included inside the Legacy Edition box. In order to keep costs down and make the finished Legacy Edition work at retail, we're sticking to softcover for the book inside the box.

Ultimately, if the stretch goal is unlocked, all backers at the I Want It All reward level will receive two copies of In the Labyrinth: One in softcover inside the Legacy Edition box as well as a hardcover included outside of the box.

You As Art!

Finally, and also as suggested by backers, we have opened up five slots of a $1,000 reward level for those of you who have always wanted to become a permanent part of The Fantasy Trip. Those who select this reward will be illustrated into In the Labyrinth book. Additionally, you will receive the entire I Want It All package, and we'll cover the shipping costs.

If you have any questions about this or any other rewards, please leave a comment, and we'll answer as quickly as possible. Thanks!

More Goodies and New Stretch Goal Reveals!
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jul 27, 2018 at 09:54:44 PM

If you've not yet voiced your stretch goal requests in the previous update, there's still time to add your ideas into the mix for our team to review and consider. And, at the rate you're unlocking these stretch goals, we may need to turn to your requests sooner than we thought. The $123,000 stretch goal has fallen!

New Stretch Goals

We have now revealed a few more stretch goals for the project, but the one we think will most interest you at the moment is the $137,500 stretch goal: The Fantasy Trip Companion softcover book added to the I Want It All reward at no extra charge! And yes, a PDF version of this book, if we unlock the goal, will be a part of the $25 reward level PDF collection that is also included in the $30, $60, $110, and higher levels.

What is The Fantasy Trip Companion? This softcover book, sized at (estimated) 8.5" x 11" will be packed with all of the web extras unlocked during this campaign, Space Gamer articles unlocked during this campaign, and perhaps some other surprises. The more stretch goals you unlock to add content to the website, the bigger this book will be. So get out there and spread word and let's make this a reality!

(And yes, if the printed book is unlocked, we will offer the title as an add-on item. Because we know you always need extra books for your friends.)

As always, be sure to post if you have any questions about the project. Our office crew is ready to help out as best we can, and this includes keeping you updated on the project and making sure that your questions are answered to the best of our ability. Thanks!

Megahex Add-On!
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jul 27, 2018 at 09:46:26 PM

Now that you've unlocked a third sheet of megahexes, and the Facebook goal to unlock another sheet of megahexes is close to falling (share this post!), we've opened up a new $15 add-on for those of you who want to construct larger labyrinths: A duplicate set of the megahex sheets packed inside the Legacy Edition box. And if more megahex sheets are unlocked and inserted into the box, then the add-on pack will also grow.

Why an exact duplicate of the sheets inside the box? Whenever we're manufacturing and fulfilling games and accessories, we need to keep the costs down and streamline the process as much as possible. By making the add-on an exact duplicate of the sheets in the box, it is only a single direction to the factory on how to print and assemble the sheets. Then, during the final assembly stage, our instructions read something like "6,000 megahex packs, 5,000 inserted into the boxes and 1,000 bulk packed for individual use." Adding a barcode to the bagged sheets means that our fulfillment partner can scan the items and not ask: "Which pick item is this?"

Possible Upcoming Stretch Goals

Many of you have made suggestions and requests -- thank you! -- and we wanted to let all of you know where we're at with your ideas. If I have missed your suggestion, then that is on me, not the team, and I am sorry. Feel free to make your stretch goal suggestion again; we cannot promise that any suggestions will become a reality, but I can promise that we will read and consider your ideas.

  • TFT GM Screen - This has been a serious stretch goal contender for months, now, and we can report that Brandon Moore is working on artwork that may be used for a GM reference screen for the game. That new art by Brandon Moore may, if we go with it, also have a home as the cover to . . .
  • The Fantasy Trip Companion - Or some name or other. We've made no decision. What this is, though, is an 8.5-inch by 11-inch softcover collection of the web extras you unlock during this process, plus any Space Gamer articles that are unlocked. Additionally, we've been discussing the rights (with authors) around some older TFT articles that were published in other magazines; if we can work out reprint rights, we may be offering some more articles as stretch goals. Wish us luck!
  • Hardcover In the Labyrinth - We're exploring this as an option. We're not ready to say "yes!," but we are seriously crunching numbers and looking into how we would slot a hardcover option into the project.
  • A Sheet of Large Creature Counters - An excellent suggestion, and one that Steve and I have discussed and we both like. We do not (at this time) promise this as a stretch goal, but we are saying that it is possible.

There are more stretch goals we're planning to reveal, so please don't think that the above list is all we've got left. The above listing is simply a brief update on some of your stretch goal suggestions and to give you an idea of where we're at in our thinking re: stretch goals.

Thank You, Everyone!

You've unlocked fifteen stretch goals, and we haven't even hit Day Five of the project! Just how far are you going to push the project, gang? Any guesses as to how many backers we have when the project closes on August 24?

Second Megahex Sheet Added to the Legacy Edition and Space Gamer Articles
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jul 26, 2018 at 10:16:22 PM

You're blowing those stretch goals away and keeping us on our toes, gang, and there's no way that we can thank all of you enough for your enthusiasm for The Fantasy Trip! When we started work on this project, we knew there was some interest in the game . . . well, over $100,000 in funding in the first few days of the project is so much better than we had expected that we're examining our numbers and looking for more ways to pack goodies into the Legacy Edition box. Thank you!

Two Megahex Sheets

The $110,000 stretch goal has fallen, and now the Legacy Edition will include two different megahex sheets. And with us at over 380 shares of this Facebook post, we're getting closer to unlocking that social goal and including a third sheet of megahexes in the game. Want even more sheets of megahexes? The $120,000 goal, revealed this morning, adds another sheet of megahexes!

For those of you who have asked, we're looking into what it would take to offer duplicates of the megahex sheets as an add-on. It's totally possible, but we want to check and recheck the numbers and logistics of the situation before making any promises. We'll do the best we can to have an answer to this question in the next day or two.

Space Gamer Articles

We've been working on the $67,500 stretch goal and can now report that four of the promised Space Gamer articles have been posted to the official thefantasytrip.game website. The four articles are:

The other three stretch goal Space Gamer articles are in the works; we'll be sure to post an update when those are online and ready for your enjoyment. And remember, the entire Steve Jackson Games run of Space Gamer magazine is available at our online store, Warehouse 23, in PDF for those of you who want hours and hours of gaming entertainment from the eighties.

Thank You!

This project is stronger than we expected, and it is your support that is making the return of The Fantasy Trip bigger than originally planned. We'll continue to crunch the numbers, explore options, and find ways to pack even more into the box. All we ask is that you continue to share the project with your friends, talk about The Fantasy Trip at forums and blogs across the web, and keep sending your positive encouragement our way as the team keeps devoting time and resources to making the game even better. Thanks!

Wizard Character Pads Unlocked, New Stretch Goals Revealed, and Art from Liz Danforth
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jul 26, 2018 at 10:14:44 PM

Fantastic work, everyone! The 5" x 3.5" Wizard character sheets pad is now a part of every Legacy Edition box and, absolutely, available as an add-on for those of you who want extras (three Wizard character pads for $5). This is in addition to the Melee character pad that's already in the Legacy Edition box; all we need now is a stretch goal for that golf pencil, right?

New Stretch Goals Revealed

We have three revealed stretch goals, two new ones in addition to that $120,000 goal that was posted earlier. The $123,000 and $126,000 stretch goals add more content to the official thefantasytrip.game website, including the last seven Space Gamer articles.

And speaking of Space Gamer articles, we have posted the three needed to fulfill the $67,500 stretch goal. Just posted to the site within the last hour:

More Liz Danforth Art

We have more artwork from Liz, and right now we'd like to share three illustrations with you. One, an interior illo from the Melee rulebook, and two of the new counter illustrations that Liz created for the project. (Scroll down for the art.) Awesome work, Liz!

That covers the latest update, gang. As always, keep sharing the project and let's bring more backers in and keep unlocking those stretch goals! We have more surprises to reveal and, together, will make this game even bigger!!!

Q&A With Steve On Facebook Live

We'll be hosting a Q&A with Steve answering fan questions about TFT on Facebook Live this afternoon! If you like and follow our Facebook page, you will get an alert when we go live. For those that don't use Facebook, we'll be sharing the video on YouTube as well, so don't worry.

If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below! We'll pick the best questions and answer them live this afternoon, around 4 p.m. CT.
