New RPGGeek Goal and Updated UK and EU Shipping Information
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 08, 2018 at 11:07:38 PM

We have a new RPGGeek goal: At 500 fans of The Fantasy Trip on this RPGGeek page, we will add a duplicate of one of the megahex sheets to the Legacy Edition box. At the moment, the page has 371 fans, so let's get out there and spread the word and unlock this goal before the project closes!

EU and UK Shipping

Thanks to the hard work of Darryll and GamesQuest, we can now report that we have reduced (some of) the shipping costs for EU and UK project supporters. Additionally, the EU and UK rewards will ship from within the UK.

The new shipping estimates for the EU and UK:

EU

  • Melee/Wizard - $15
  • Legacy Edition - $20
  • I Want It All - $40

UK

  • Melee/Wizard - $15
  • Legacy Edition - $20
  • I Want It All - $40

We continue to explore options for fulfillment to the rest of the world. If anything changes, we will revise the FAQ and post an update. Thank you for your patience as we seek out better shipping options for everyone.

GM Screen Upgrade, New GM Screen Stretch Goal, and GM Screen Artwork Progress
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 08:59:45 PM

It is a GM screen day! Last night, you unlocked the $180,000 stretch goal and gave TFT gamemasters stronger defenses against those pesky players. That three-panel GM screen will now be constructed of a heavier material than first intended; meaning that it will be both more stable and awe-inspiring when you're seated at the table and facing the most dangerous foes of all: your players.

A Fourth Panel?

We can do better, though, right? Now revealed, the new $215,000 stretch goal, if met, will add a fourth panel to the screen and give Steve and Guy more space to place information on the sturdy screen. After the discussions at the official forums, as well as emails traded back and forth as we work on the project, the decision was made that a fourth panel would be valuable. So let's get out there and raise awareness, bring in more gamers, and unlock that $215,000 stretch goal!

Updated GM Screen Artwork

Are you looking for something to share? Well, how about Brandon Moore's latest step in the creation of the artwork for the new GM screen? This is not yet complete, but the art is shaping up so wonderfully that we wanted to give you a peek at the progress Brandon has made in the last few days. We'll be sure to share the final art just as soon as Brandon finishes work on this masterpiece.

More Stretch Goals Unlocked (and posted!), Interview at Tenkar's Tavern, and Different Worlds
almost 6 years ago – Mon, Aug 06, 2018 at 01:23:04 AM

The $174,000 stretch goal and 325 fans at RPGGeek goal are now both behind us, and Steve has completed and posted those two extras (as well as the first RPGGeek goal extra) at the official thefantasytrip.game website. To see all of the posted extra articles, please click here.

We have also revealed a few more stretch goals; visit the campaign page for the complete list of stretch goals. And yes, more stretch goals are on the way, so let's keep sharing the project and raising awareness!

Interview at Tenkar's Tavern

In the "raising awareness" department, thank you to Erik Tenkar for taking the time to chat with Steve about The Fantasy Trip project. You can read the interview here, and please be sure to join Erik's Facebook group for notification of site updates (as well as some great info on OSR projects).

Thank You to Chaosium and Different Worlds!

One of the benefits to a show like Gen Con is that we get a chance to sit down with our friends at other companies, and we did just that on Saturday when we joined Jim and Michael of Chaosium for a bit of a chat. The subject: Reprint rights to TFT articles that appeared in the Different Worlds magazine over three decades ago.

The verdict: Yes! Steve and I need to review each of the articles to see what makes the cut, but we can report that we now have access to all of the TFT articles that were published in Different Worlds and, where appropriate, will yank those from the past and bring them into the softcover edition of The Fantasy Trip Companion

Please be sure to visit Chaosium and thank them for allowing us access to those old articles and, if you're looking for some fun reading, you can still buy printed copies of (a handful of) the Different Worlds issues here.

Update on Stretch Goals, RPGNet Questions, GM Screen Art Progress, and More from Judges Guild
almost 6 years ago – Mon, Aug 06, 2018 at 12:35:22 AM

Two important stretch goal updates:

  • The $74,000 stretch goal is close to being knocked down and its treasures captured by the party, so please be sure to get out there today and share the project with your favorite RPG forums and blogs.
  • The latest RPGGeek goal needs fewer than a dozen fans, and we'll unlock that one. Be sure to click the heart icon on this page and become a fan of The Fantasy Trip at RPGGeek.

Unlocking both of those goals will add more to the website and the Companion.

RPGNet Questions

At the RPG.net forums, user KingJosh has three questions that, if possible, we would appreciate it if project backers stepped in and answered/gave their opinions. KingJosh has a few specific questions about using The Fantasy Trip with a younger audience, as an intro to roleplaying, so sharing any of your experiences on the subject in this forum thread should help him understand why (or why not) the game may suit his needs.

GM Screen Art Moving Forward

Last week, Brandon Moore spent a miserable time in Austin with air conditioning issues; any of you who have enjoyed a Texas summer will know why a dead AC unit is not a good thing. Fortunately, Brandon's technical difficulties have been resolved, and he is back to work on The Fantasy Trip. Yesterday, Branon shared this updated image of the GM screen artwork with our office crew, and we wanted all of you to see how it is coming together.

Once Brandon finishes the color work on this art, we'll have the center panel of the GM screen as well as the art we need to complete the cover to the Companion book. I think this looks incredible.

Welcome, Jennell Jaquays!

We're diving into another Judges Guild magazine, The Dungeoneer, and pulling a TFT adventure from the game's past. Thank you to Jennell Jaquays (website) for agreeing to us using the adventure from The Dungeoneer #11, "The Lost Lair," which adds even more fun to the Companion book as we continue to collect old articles . . . this, of course, makes the Companion even more valuable as it helps collectors and gamers by compiling as many old TFT articles between two covers as we can manage.

Shiny Dice!
almost 6 years ago – Sat, Aug 04, 2018 at 11:43:46 PM

We wake this morning to both another day of demos at the Gen Con booth and this happy news: The $170,000 stretch goal has been unlocked, and we are now upgrading the Melee and Wizard dice from white urea dice to pearlized acrylic dice! (Pearlized red with gold ink in Melee and pearlized blue with gold ink in Wizard.) This is great news . . . especially after the emails Steve, Guy, and I traded back and forth discussing a possible use for dice with the inside of the Legacy Edition box lid. More news if our ideas come together!

A question: How much interest is there in us making these dice available as an add-on item?

RPGGeek Fans

We're now at 259 fans of this RPGGeek page for the Legacy Edition box. The goal, as you may remember, is 325 fans at which point you will unlock another bonus article for the website (and, if unlocked, addition to The Fantasy Trip Companion softcover and PDF). So please, everyone, leap over to RPGGeek now and be sure to click the heart icon and become a fan of The Fantasy Trip Legacy Edition at the site.

More Gen Con Pics

For those of you not at Gen Con this weekend, here are a handful of quick snaps of the demo materials in the booth. We're running skirmish combat demos and, at the same time, answering questions about the game and the Kickstarter project. With any luck, we'll see more backers join us after the enjoy the game demo and after they return home; at Gen Con, most of the time is eaten up by gaming and fun, and browsing the internet is as far from thought as possible.

Gen Con and ready for battle!

An RPGNet Question and a Meeting

Two last points that deserve mention.

  • In this RPGNet thread, a question that could use your input (please comment on the post at the site): "How well can The Fantasy Trip do in a longer campaign? Are there lots of advancement possibilities? What about underpinning a known setting - like say Conan or Ravenloft or others? Are there any TFT foibles that would make that difficult?"
  • And, lastly, I am off to prepare for the show and my first meeting: A breakfast meeting to discuss possibly gaining reprint rights to a selection of articles from an old RPG magazine of the seventies and eighties. If this goes well, we'll have even more classic TFT content to include in the Companion softcover. Fingers crossed!
